Fortnite Show Llama Loot Box Contents Before PurchaseWith responsible gambling currently making headlines in the UK, more and more companies and operators are taking steps to discourage problem gambling. Following the trends of some of the UK’s Banks and GVC, who have all taken steps towards responsible gambling, Epic Games are now making changes to rid the business of underage and problem gamblers.

‘See Through Loot Boxes’

Fortnite, one of the biggest games on the market at present are now allowing their Loot Boxes to become ‘See Through’.In the latest updated version of Fortnite V7.30, you will now see the V-bucks contents without having to make a purchase. In the past, the contents of any Llama bought in the V-bucks store were a mystery, players could receive anything from a low value item such as bullets to a far higher value item such as Damage Traps. The UKGC have looked at Loot Boxes and confirmed Loot Boxes are not under its licensing remit.

Not Classed As Gambling

UKGC said, purchasing Loot Boxes is not gambling as they “can’t be traded or exchanged outside the game platform”. The UKGC will continue to monitor the situation.Even so, Epic Gaming have made the decision to eradicate gambling problems and underage gambling with strict rules and guidelines. By allowing players too see before they purchase, removes any aspect of encouraging underage gambling. There’s no doubt the decision will have a knock on affect across the industry. With the UK leading in responsible gambling legislation, we may see Loot Boxes disappear for good in the future.
