Flutter Entertainment have announced they are to reduce the amount under 25’s can deposit to £500 per month. Flutter who operates Paddy Power brands and also Sky Betting has made the decision to put a cap on the under 25’s spending limit in a continued effort to encourage younger customers to gamble responsibly.The caveat comes with further verification and detailed affordability checks if a player under 25 wishes to wager more than the monthly cap figure.

Triple Step Framework

Flutter has introduced a Triple Step Framework giving them the power to act on real-time data to enable them to monitor a player’s activity and behaviour, further enhancing Flutter’s Safe Gambling procedures.Flutter’s analysis has seen early childhood changes can affect a young adult’s attitude towards gambling, siting younger adults betting have a ‘Higher risk profile’ found in its ongoing research.“We are continuously looking at ways we can enhance protections for our customers, particularly those who are younger or maybe vulnerable, said Flutter’s UK and Ireland CEO Conor Grant.“People under the age of 25 are more likely to experience a number of significant life changes, such as gaining independence for the first time and learning how to manage their finances. We want people who decide to gamble when they come of age to get in the habit of setting sensible spending limits and this measure is the latest, we are introducing to help make this happen.”

Positive Reaction

Flutter has conducted its own poll to gauge the reaction from customers who gamble on a regular basis and 77% agreed on the measures aimed at younger people as a means of making more sensible spending decisions while gambling. Feedback from 18–24-year-olds also reaching 78%.In a continued effort to combat problem gambling throughout all age groups especially underage gambling, the company has leveraged Adtech to avoid advertising to customers under the age of 25, using age-specific markers paid for on social media marketing data models.All of Flutter’s gambling advertising on search engines must specifically provide clarity on targeting of the over 18’s, and further to this, early this year Flutter banned gambling using credit cards in both retail and online settings.
