Earlier this week, speculation was rising as to why Buzz Bingo clubs across the UK had failed to open its doors? After three months of lockdown, the government relaxed lockdown restrictions enabling businesses in the leisure industry, including bingo halls to open their doors once again.

Still Not Open?

Mecca and Crown Bingo Clubs are amongst some that have already opened but there has been a question mark as to why the UK’s largest Bingo hall operator has yet to do so? In a statement during the week CEO at Buzz Bingo Chris Mathews said they wanted to assure customers they are doing everything they can to ensure all staff and customers are as safe as possible before reopening up bingo halls. He said, “ What would customers prefer, a rushed opening without safety measures in place or no safety measures?”Today, Buzz Bingo have revealed they will be permanently closing 26 of its Bingo halls with a potential loss of 570 employees. The operator said they have taken drastic action to ‘protect the future of its business’ after issues the pandemic had caused throughout the leisure and hospitality industry.

Clubs To Permanently Close

Clubs closing are: Salisbury, Salford, Chatham, Banbury, Boston, Bournemouth, Carlisle Bridlington, Chorley, Crammlington, Edinborough, Derby Foresters, Harpurhey, Hereford, Kilmarnock, Milton Keynes, Oxford, Stockland Green, Tamworth, Wednesbury, Weymouth, Wigan, Wolverhampton, Worcester and Wythenshawe.Speaking in a statement to employees, Chris Mathews said, “We know how disappointing this news will be especially for those of our customers who are losing their local club, and of course, our colleagues – we know that we are more than just a club, we are part of your community, and for that, I’m really sorry.”
