It’s unlikely that you have missed the recent news of the WannaCry Ransomware cyber-attack that has caused havoc around the world, with an estimated 200,000 devices infected worldwide on Friday (May 12th, 2017).The attack, which had a devastating effect in England, targeting many NHS computers and causing sever issues that are still being rectified in some places, is a terrifying reminder that as much as technology is becoming increasingly essential in our lives, it is necessary to remain vigilant, and always be careful.WannaCry Reminds Us All to be Safe

What happened?

The WannaCry hack targeted the Windows operating system, which is widely used around the world, and reminds us all that any of us could have been affected by the attack, and could be affected by one like it.Ransomware has become more of an issue over recent years, the malware locks vital documents and demands payment before unlocking them, which could cause serious issues for any of us, whether it be personal or work computers.

How to be careful

The iGaming world works hard to maintain safety and security for sites and players, but it is also necessary that the players themselves act with care, and only deal with sites and companies that they are 100% comfortable with. Make sure the casino has licenses in place, and make Google searches to check that others have not had bad experiences before you hand over your financial information to anybody. Also, it is necessary to keep updating your computer whenever prompted, make sure you have internet security software in place, and be vigilant when it comes to contact from anyone.E-mails are one of the easiest ways for hacks to occur (as with the WannaCry attack), so always consider the reliability and trustworthiness of an e-mail, and any attachments that may come with it.
