The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) have issued guidelines to operators under their license, making sure they are all onboard with the new verification rules which came in to force today, 7th May 2019.
Age & Identity Verification
In a press release last Friday, the UKGC issued amendments to its License Conditions and Codes Practice (LCCP), after an open consultation, operators must have verification of age and identity of all customers before they are able to deposit funds in to their account, play games or gamble using bonus funds or their own money. The new ruling comes after breaches were made by some operators, after failing to have the appropriate checks verified before allowing customers to deposit funds.
No Unverified Gambling
The Gambling Commission stated in a press release that the United Kingdom-Licensed ‘remote betting and gaming operators and some remote lotteries’, will now have to verify the name, age, date of birth and address of customers before allowing them to gamble on their site. All the above information should be kept as up to date as possible and checked regularly, preventing any unverified customer gambling before the checks are complete. The regulator also stated, operators must inform customers before allowing them to deposit in to their account, what type of identity documentation are required and how this information should be supplied to the operator. Previous to today’s new ruling, existing customers will not have funds confiscated but will be asked for additional verification information promptly, before funds can be released.
