As the US prepares for the legalisation of sports betting, Las Vegas has spent the last couple of years expanding its reach in the sporting world. The most apparent case of this is the Las Vegas Golden Knights ice hockey team, a team that despite being created less than two years ago, made it all the way to this year’s NHL Stanley Cup Final before losing out to the Washington Capitals. However, it isn’t only ice hockey that is experiencing a boom in Vegas, as Las Vegas Lights FC, the city’s soccer team, has taken advantage of the current popularity of the World Cup in Russia to announce a deal with William Hill.
William Hill
William Hill is positioning itself to be the leader of the newly legalised sports betting industry in the US, and sponsoring Las Vegas Lights, who are in the United Soccer League, the second US soccer league behind Major League Soccer, shows the intention of both parties to grow.William Hill had previously mentioned they had been approached by various US sporting teams looking for sponsorship deals, but it is Las Vegas Lights, in terms of soccer at least, who appear to have won the race.
Excited
Speaking of the deal, Joe Asher, William Hill CEO, said:“We are excited to partner with Lights FC. Las Vegas is truly a sports destination, and the Lights FC have been a great addition to the city. We look forward to seeing their continued success both on and off the field.”CEO of the Las Vegas Lights, Brett Lashbrook, added:“William Hill is an ideal partner for a pro sports team in Las Vegas. The $5 Free Sports Bet is one of the greatest sports promotions of all time. What other pro sports teams pays its fans when it wins?”
