Irish Bookmaker Paddy Power have shortened odds on Boris Johnsons reign as Prime Minister being the shortest-serving in UK History, after yesterday’s Supreme Court Hearing in which Boris ‘s decision to suspend parliament was deemed ‘unlawful’.
Prorogation
Johnson became Prime Minister of the UK in July 2019 and has since stirred up the Government with his ‘get on with it’ Brexit regime. Johnson called for prorogation of the Government and spoke to the Queen to gain her permission. Parliamentary members were aghast at the outcome and the Supreme Court Ruled yesterday the act as ‘Unlawful’.
Odds Slashed
After the ruling, Paddy Power have now slashed odds to 2/1 on the PM resigning before the year is out!Odds currently stand at 6/4 that he will no longer be Prime Minister before the General Election. Odds of the public going to the polls stand at 1/3, and odds of 13/10 for the likelihood of a December General Election.A Paddy Power spokesperson said,“ We think Britain is destined to go back to the polls – so the country can spend the next couple of years arguing about the result. “ Though we still make the Conservatives clear favourites for the General Election, the odds on Boris going are shortening after the Supreme Court Ruling- get ready for more chaos.”With the Government in political chaos, the Conservatives are still expected to win the General Election with odds currently standing at 1/3, against odds of 10/3 for a Labour victory and 12/1 Liberal Democrats.
