After a hap-hazard year for Boris Johnson as Prime Minister, the Brexit fiasco, Coronavirus testing, A-level results debacle, Paddy Power have slashed the odds on Boris staying in power beyond Christmas 2020.
‘Unhappy Boris’
After securing an 80-seat commons majority at the end of 2019, it seems the tide has turned for Boris as we lead in to autumn. The MSM are constantly reporting an ‘unhappy Boris’ and Paddy Power have now halved the odds from 8/1 to 4/1 on Boris being replaced. If Boris does maintain his position at Christmas, the odds of him leaving early next year stand at 2/1.Paddy Power said, “ It’s been a chaotic few days for Boris Johnson, to say the least. And the increased pressure is reflected in the betting, too, as his odds of being replaced before the year is out have shortly significantly today.”
Who Else Will Go?
Other key figures in Boris’s cabinet are also looking likely to be out next year. Gavin Williamson, Education secretary who caused an uproar after the A-level result debacle is likely to lose his position with odds of 1/2, Matt Hancock, 6/4, Chris Whitty 3/1 and Patrick Vallance 4/1.The term ‘lead by example’ seems to have gone out of the window as Boris allegedly took a trip to Italy to have his son Christened, further draconian lockdown restrictions to be imposed on the nation and Brexit have all contributed to the shift in change and confidence in the current PM.
