This month the U.S Government have added clarity to its online gambling laws. This added clarity may come as sad news for some that love to play. Now, all forms of online gambling involving interstate transactions are banned. Meaning you can’t be in Ohio and gamble on a online casino site based in New Jersey. Back in 2011, the U.S. Justice Department did allow only interstate sports betting. However, as per the new clarification, all online gambling involving interstate transactions is now prohibited.
Who can gamble
Currently, if you gamble within a state which online gambling is legal, you’ll be unaffected by this clarification. Now casinos will have to have both a physical presence and a secure system in place to ensure that no bets are placed from outside of the state. It is unknown at this time how the industry will navigate that issue in a way that satisfies the revised federal regulations. This reversal could also affect crypto-based betting platforms. The main areas affected by this government decision are interstate lotteries and poker games that run between Delaware, Nevada, and New Jersey.
