The National Lottery’s current third license is due to expire in 2023, with this in mind, the Gambling Commission have begun the process to award the fourth license, with changes to the current license being outlined.
Ten Year Fixed Term
The winning applicant will be announced September 2021 with the fourth successful licensee awarded a ten-year fixed term. Initially interested parties will register in the first formal stage of the process, if they pass they will then receive an invitation to begin their application.Since launching in 1994, the National Lottery has donated billions to good causes with over £41b for causes in the UK. The new licensee will continue to raise funds for good cause while implementing safe play and building on the success of the National Lottery. Moreover, the new licensee will be encourage to form stronger relationships between distributors of the lottery funding, building a good relationship between the brand, players and good causes.
Healthy Interest
So far the UKGC have seen a healthy interest from competitors vying for the license. Camelot who currently own the license have done so since the National Lottery began in 1994, the current license is due to expire in 2023.Neil McArthur CEO for the Gambling Commission said, “ The National Lottery is a national reassure. It has a good reputation for providing enjoyable games and a high degree of player protection, as well as a rich history of prize giving and returns to good causes. “ We are determined to protect and build on the reputation of the national lottery. For the fourth license, we will be evolving our approach to regulation to build on the national Lottery’s huge success.”
