The United Kingdom Gambling Commission (UKGC) has released its business plan which outlines its priorities and intentions for 2018-19.Control measures and in-game protections top the list of targets for the next 12 months, as the UKGC continues to focus the majority of its attention on the protection of vulnerable gamblers, as well as general consumer protection.Enhancing and securing the returns to good causes from lotteries, higher standards in the industry, and an increase on self-regulation on the part of the UKGC also appear as targets.
About the plan
A decent percentage of the UKGC’s plan is to improve those measures that are already in place, such as speeding up the progress that is already being made by operators making customer interventions at times of concern.Operators are also called on to work to better understand the effects of problem gambler on players and the public in general.Speaking of the plan, UKGC Chair, William Moyes, said:“Our ambitious plans for the next 12 months and beyond are designed to enable us to continue to respond to emerging risks and issues in a way that balances consumer choice and enjoyment with the risks associated with gambling, and the impact on wider society.“Our strategy and plans will deliver real change for consumers, the gambling industry and for us as the regulator.“Our aim is to make gambling fairer and safer and to raise standards across the industry.”
Microgaming lead the charge
Ensuring they adhere to the standards set by the UKGC, Microgaming has donated over £12,000 to the Young Gamblers Education Trust, with Microgaming’s Head of Compliance, Kimberley Broad, saying:“Promoting responsible gaming and supporting our local community are hugely important to us, so we were naturally keen to support YGAM in extending its accredited programme to the Isle of Man.”
