While the news had been coming, the company stopped transacting on May 31st, the actual announcement that it will be pulling all Odobo-powered slot games really has left many feeling deflated.
How They Started Out
When Odobo first arrived on the scene back in 2011 they did so with the aim to produce, market, and distribute slots, along with a selection of other online casino games. What Odobo was largely credited for was working with smaller development studios in order to bring fresh and innovative games to market. Through this they were able to craft an impressive game portfolio. Sadly, as time progressed Odobo failed to shake off its “up and comer” tag and bring its products into the mainstream spotlight.
Difficult Decision
The official closure announcement was posted on the Odobo website and read as follows, “As our industry has evolved, it has become clear that marketplaces like ours require wider scale to survive in an increasingly complex and fragmented regulatory landscape. We needed to recognise that the velocity with which the business was growing was outpaced by the costs associated with providing the services that Odobo offered. As a result, we have made the very difficult decision to close the business.”
Some Titles Will Live On
While the end of Odobo is disappointing, all is not lost, as several co-created Odobo titles will live on. For example, Legend of Olympus will remain under the Rabcat Gaming name and Robyn will remain under the Genesis Gaming brand. Gone but not forgotten, the Odobo legacy should live long into the future through such titles
