GambleAware is an independent problem gambling charity within the UK working closely with the Gambling Commission and various other gambling-related charities in a bid to curb the damages caused by gambling.
£2.5m Budget
The charity has just announced they are to establish a network of Gambling Education Hubs throughout England and Wales to provide early intervention, prevention, and reduction from gambling-related harm to children and young adults.The budget set out to create these hubs comes in at £2.5 million.Youth organisations, youth practitioners, and teachers will be offered awareness and understanding of gambling-related harm and risks associated with gambling on a regular basis.People working in eight settings within the UK and Wales including Faith leaders, debt advisors, primary care workers, occupational health, criminal justice, housing, and homeless services, social care, and community pharmacies will gain sufficient awareness as people suffering from gambling-related problems may turn to people working within these settings.
Community-Based Approach
Upskilling professionals such as the eight settings mentioned above through educational training on gambling-related harms will also extend to the National Gambling Treatment Services to create a community-based approach.Tenders have already been placed by the GambleAware charity for design, delivery training, and development of the Hubs with a deadline predicted by 2 November 2021.GambleAware is committed to the prevention of gambling-related harm in younger people and continues spreading awareness as to the devastating damage caused by gambling addiction. The charity made it clear they are committing £2.5m in funding to the UK’s gambling harms hubs and it’s looking likely to go ahead.The new hub programme will be in addition to GambleAware’s existing portfolio of training and educational resources, hoping to create a wider reach through the Hubs throughout England and Wales.
