A lucky UK player has become the fourth biggest EuroMillions winner in British history after being the sole winner of a staggering £114.9 million jackpot in the New Year’s Day draw. The win comes after a run of many big wins for UK players on the Euromillions, and while the record in the UK has been in place since back in 2011, when Chris and Colin Weir won themselves over £160 million, the difference in exchange rates means that the Euro amount of the new win actually isn’t that far short of the Weir’s record.Either way, we’re sure the new winner isn’t crying into their hundred million plus at this point!
The winner
We currently don’t know much about the winner, which may remain true, winners of two big jackpots of £121 million and £77 million in recent years have chosen to keep their identities secret. That isn’t always the way though, along with the Weirs, we also know the most recent UK winner before the New Year’s day player was Andrew Clark, a (now) former builder who kept his tickets in his van, and was somewhat surprised to learn he’d picked up a £76 million jackpot in November!
More prizes
The National Lottery are advising everyone to check their tickets for the New Year’s day draw, because there are still prizes to be claimed. If you have a ticket, the numbers for the EuroMillions draw are 01, 08, 11, 325, and 28, with the EuroMillions Lucky Star numbers being 04 and 06.The recent string of UK players is undoubtedly just a coincidence, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t add to the general sense of excitement, and you never know, as unlikely as it is, the next multi-millionaire could be you!
