Chinese authorities have recently reported that they have made a huge step forward in their fight against fraudulent online gambling in Cambodia.
About the case
The case started a little over a year ago, and has now culminated with over 200 people being detained on suspicion of scamming over 1000 customers out of over $21 million dollars. The suspects would run online casino scams out of hotel rooms, with the servers were being hosted in Poipet. They would then attract customers using the names of trusted and reputable brands in the gambling city of Macau, presenting a combination of live dealer and digital casino games.Players would win small amounts at first, incentives to keep them playing, but as soon as they started betting with large amounts of money, the rigged games would kick in and ensure that the player would lose immediately, the site would then cease communications with the customer. The swift withdrawal of an early win, and the branding of a well-known casino company, meant that over 1,000 fell into the trap, losing huge amounts of money.
Be careful
It has never been more important to be vigilant when using online casino sites. Fraudsters are becoming increasingly more creative, so even a site that at first looks trustworthy, can turn out to be a scam under closer inspection.Casinos that are good to use will have an excellent reputation and a verified license. There are many online resources and chat rooms where you can ensure the validity of a site, and find out about the experiences of other customers, to save the heartbreak that so many have suffered as a result of this case.
