The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has upheld a complaint regarding a promotional offer on the Jeffbet website, a platform operated by ProgressPlay. The promotion promised “Bet £10 ($12.50) and get £30 free bet,” however, it was flagged for being potentially misleading to new customers.
Customer Complaint
A new customer challenged the promotion after finding themselves non-eligible despite meeting the apparent criteria. The promotional terms indicated it was available to “New Players Only,” which the complainant assumed applied to new Jeffbet users.
ProgressPlay, the company behind Jeffbet, defended the promotion by explaining that it was designed to include as much detail as possible within the limited space. They argued that the full terms and conditions were available on the same page and clearly stated that the offer was only available to new customers within the entire ProgressPlay network, not just Jeffbet.
However, the ASA determined the ad was misleading. The regulatory body stated the phrase “New Players Only” suggested that all new Jeffbet customers would be eligible without making it clear that the restriction applied to the entire ProgressPlay network. The ASA found there was sufficient space in the advertisement to clarify this ‘significant condition’ and that failing to do so was a misrepresentation of the offer.
The ASA ruled that the promotion should not appear again in its current form and made it clear that ProgressPlay must ensure that future promotions clearly state all the significant terms to prevent misleading customers.
