Online gaming operator 888 Holdings plc has announced plans to launch in Denmark and the newly regulated Romania after acquiring licences in both countries. In the first instance three 888 brands are being launched in Romania and Denmark having received authorisation. These are set to be 888casino, 888poker and 888sport.
Regulated Online gaming Market
Romania has only recently formed a regulated online gaming market and 888 are quick to get in on the action, having reportedly paid €3.1million in Romanian back taxes. The country’s regulators also granted licences to Betfair and PokerStars last week. Perhaps surprisingly, Ladbrokes and William Hill did not procure licences after pulling out of the Romanian market earlier this year.
Takeover
888 is currently battling with GVC Holdings in a takeover bid of rival firm bwin.party. GVC Holdings have submitted a higher offer but 888’s revised proposal means the operator’s bid remains the favourite.
