Sometimes the names of casinos are creative, sometimes they appear to have been chosen at random, and sometimes people just combine something famous with the word casino and see where it takes them. A sceptic may suggest that the latter option was that chosen by the people behind Northern Lights Casino, although those people are Nektan, so assume as you will.
Northern Lights Casino does a weird thing, we’ll deal with that from the outset. On the homepage, there is a charming little introduction to the site, which is nice, but it says the following:
“Hello and Welcome to Northern Lights Casino! We are a brand new casino with tons of HD games to engage the modern gamer!”
Lovely, right? Except Northern Lights Casino was launched in January 2015, at that point, it was undeniably brand-new, but now? This site is over two years old, with the pace that new sites arrive on the market, Northern Lights isn’t far shy of a seasoned veteran at this point, you’d assume someone in the last year or so would’ve taken the time to change the information on the site accordingly, but nobody seems to have bothered, it’s not the biggest issue, but it is worryingly lazy.
Design and theme
That laziness is pretty much part and parcel for the aesthetics at Northern Lights Casino as well. I am sure you have every ability to guess what the design concept is here, it’s the Northern Lights, and not much of them. The top of the page sees a stunning Northern Lights filled skyline, above some mountains, and, fairly inexplicably, also above a carnival, but it looks like it was just the first image that came back on the Google search.
Past that, the background is just black, it looks like the designers changed about 9% of a basic website template in order by pasting a generic Northern Lights image, and just left the rest as it was.
There’s a small collection of thumbnails to games on the homepage, something that is expected of sites in the modern online casino market, but it doesn’t feel like there’s enough of them, and they don’t do anything to improve the frankly childish looking design concept.
It is rare that you find an online casino site that looks this much like it’s just been thrown together with no real care, most at least pretend to have made an effort. In that regard, maybe the honesty of Northern Lights Casino should be respected.
Another odd thing about the design concept at Northern Lights, is that the eight thumbnails that you’ll find on the homepage are for not particularly well-known games, which may lead you to assume that your favourites and most classic lots are not in attendance here (I say most because Shamrock ‘n’ Roll is present on the homepage).
But that’s the thing, games here come via Blueprint Gaming, Extreme Live Gaming, Felt, Gamevy, IGT Interactive, Microgaming, Nektan, NetEnt, NextGen Gaming, NYX Gaming, Realistic Games, SG Gaming, and Williams Interactive, there’s a huge collection of top quality games from these providers available at Northern Lights Casino, but they don’t seem to want you to know that.
It’s strange, but it appears that when Nektan developer Northern Lights Casino, they did it with the intention of putting off as many players as they possibly could, despite actually having some pretty good content.
To be fair, there are many sites with good content, and pretty much all of them feel like they’ve made more of an effort than this one. At best, this site is disappointing, frankly, I just wouldn’t bother.
