Calvin Casino
Calvin Casino Review
Calvin Casino is now closed
When you hear the name Calvin, your head is likely to go to the expensive clothing label (unless you have a friend called Calvin, then you’ll probably think of them first) and that appears to be the hope for Calvin Casino, because the affluent themed design work of this site wouldn’t look to be trying any harder to carry out that association if the site was shaped like a pair of designer boxer shorts.
However professional and classy Calvin Casino may look, that doesn’t change the fact that this is a recent site, launched in 2017, and thus, this is a site that has a serious uphill struggle ahead of it if it’s going to break the online casino market, especially with a concept that has been run dry by a plethora of sites over many years before the arrival of this pretender to the throne.
That isn’t to say Calvin Casino can’t make an impact, if it offers content and style that it’s direct rivals cannot, then it will find its way to the top of the pile very quickly, but that is easier said than done, does Calvin Casino have any chance of doing it?
Design and theme
When you arrive at Calvin Casino, you are greeted by a suited man with an impossibly well-kept moustache who glares at you in a manner that is not the most welcoming, it’s an odd decision.
I have no doubt that this man is supposed to represent the affluent tone of the casino, and in some ways, he does, but on a base level, he just succeeds in making it seem like you’ve walked into a casino and you are now being stared at like you have no place there, which isn’t exactly the way to appeal to new fans.
As you scan through the site, you will be greeted by more models, predominantly glamorous women adorned in gold (one lady wearing the most horrific sunglasses you are ever likely to see in your life) who do not share the same look of judgement, which is nice, but it all feels a bit cheesy.
Therein lies the problem with Calvin Casino, it looks like a casino that was designed at the very beginning of the online gaming boom, and even then, it would’ve looked outrageously outdated, it is just a poor attempt at design, and not one that is likely to appeal to anybody, especially not with the sheer number of other sites with the same theme that are available.
Games
With such a deeply disappointing design concept, Calvin Casino needs to bring a lot in terms of games to impress, and, unfortunately, this is not the case.
Titles here come from a limited selection of software developers, namely GamesOS, Microgaming, and NetEnt. That isn’t to say there aren’t great games from these developers, NetEnt and Microgaming are arguably the two most popular software providers in the world, but when you look at the abundant lists of developers that Calvin’s competitors offer, it simply isn’t good enough.
You’ll find slots, table and card games, and a live casino, as well as a good mix of jackpot titles, but it’s nothing you won’t find elsewhere, and most of those places have more to offer, and a better design concept.
It’s 2017, you need to bring something really special to the table if you have any chance of succeeding in the incredibly competitive online casino market, and it just feels like Calvin Casino missed the memo. If there were only two online casinos in the world, you’d want to go to the one that wasn’t this one.
